Avanco International helps United States Air Force, Air Combat Command achieve GeoBase mission.

January 2007 | Mclean Virginia

Avanco International has successfully completed phase one of a multi-phased Air Combat Command GeoBase (an enterprise level Geographic Information System) integration study. Overall Avanco has assisted the Air Combat Command GeoBase mission by gathering geographic information system requirements and documenting a critical path for the successful integration. To date, over 70 specific spatial data requirements have been captured. The GeoBase integration study also identified spatial data overlap from new requirements; this allows Air Combat Command to minimize data redundancy throughout the GeoBase enterprise. Key stakeholder partnerships have been made as a result of Avanco findings.

Program Highlights:

  • To date, the Air Combat Command intelligence community is working diligently with the GeoBase office to enable imagery sharing and enhance the current imagery processing workflow. This new partnership will save Air Combat Command millions of dollars in imagery procurement and Imagery process time over the years.
  • Based on result from the Space & Information Operations Directorate (A3) GeoBase integration study, the Air Combat Command A3 Directorate has funded satellite imagery for 7 US Air Force training ranges. The Air Combat Command GeoBase office is working with A3 to expand the data associated with these ranges. Also, the study results have helped to spawn discussions with Safe Range which has grown into a multi-service initiative. Safe-Range is a proprietary software application which supports range managers in ensuring the safety of ground based personnel and assets in military air-to-surface weapon training operations. It is now licensed by the US Air Force, the Department of the Navy (which includes the US Marine Corps) and a number of foreign military services. It is required for use by the USAF on every Air Combat Command training range and is in exclusive use in range planning activities and safety operations within the Department of the Navy.
  • As a result of the Avanco GeoBase integration study, Air Combat Command Security Forces (A7S) funded an Emergency Management Program (EMP) which involves all first responders throughout the Command. The program will be hosted on the GCSS-AF portal and will document all responses to an incident as it is occurring.

Avanco Supports Fairfax County Public School System

January 2007 | McLean, Virginia

Avanco International began an engagement with one of America’s largest public school systems. The purpose of this initiative is to reduce business risk by recording the vital management practices of a department within the school system’s Information Technology (IT) organization.

The department can be characterized as employing experienced staff with little documentation regarding how the staff members perform their roles. Avanco is working closely with these staff members to model critical business processes. The business process models produced describe the sequences of activities, involvement of staff, use of automated tools, interactions with external groups, and measures of performance. The process information has been collected by conducting individual interviews and facilitated meetings, observing work performed, and studying existing documentation. The type of process model chosen to meet the needs of the IT department is IDEF0.

When the engagement is completed, the public school system will have a library of business process models that describes how critical business processes are performed. Management will have a greater understanding of work performed by its staff (e.g., task interdependencies, timing constraints). The school system, as a whole, will be in a stronger position if there is ever a time when key staff members are not able to perform these critical activities.

Avanco Awarded Contract for MIS Development for Army Corps of Engineers LA District

September 2006 | Mclean Virginia

Avanco was recently awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Los Angeles District to provide Requirements Definition, Design services and IT development support for a Project Management Database and Reporting System. The overall requirement for the Program and Project Management Database and Reports System is an improved storage, retrieval and reporting environment for Project Management information. Currently a MS Access system provides information utilized by Project Managers with information derived from many sources. The system, while providing a means to report project information, often contradicts USACE reports or provides erroneous information due to the manual nature of the system. The overall concept of this scope of work is to create an Oracle database, create a method to draw standard system information into the reporting environment, and develop reports and forms to enter data into the database if needed. The resulting system will provide reports that will retrieve and display the data in useful formats and in a consistent manner that will be available to the LA District and other Corps offices whenever needed via an intranet website.
